Recently, Indonesia's North Sumatra Province has been struck by prolonged, torrential rainfall—the heaviest in decades—triggering severe floods and landslides that rapidly spread to parts of West Sumatra and Aceh provinces. The disaster has resulted in significant casualties and missing persons, as well as extensive damage to infrastructure; power and communication networks have been disrupted, roads blocked, and numerous homes washed away. Affected residents are facing critical shortages of food and drinking water, and many temporary shelters are in urgent need of external aid. The local Chinese community has also suffered heavy losses and is in urgent need of relief.
